Check CHANEL perfume batch code and production date

For CHANEL N°5, COCO MADEMOISELLE, BLEU DE CHANEL, and CHANCE, compare the compact code on the fragrance bottle and box before assessing storage and oxidation. CHANEL makeup and skincare need separate PAO and hygiene checks.

Which code to enter on Chanel packaging

On Chanel fragrance, compare the mark on the underside or lower label of the bottle with the one on the carton.

On Chanel packaging, the batch code is the number tied to when the product was made. If the pack also prints a manufacture date (MFG or PROD), that date is more direct.

Illustration: where the batch code, barcode and product numbers usually sit on a box and a bottle
  1. Batch code: enter this one

Printed, stamped or laser-etched apart from the barcode: on the box flap, the base of a bottle or compact, or the crimped end of a tube.

  2. Barcode: not the batch code

The long number under the bars. It identifies the product and size, so every unit of it shares the same number.

  3. Product numbers: not the batch code

Reference, shade, volume and concentration labels describe the item, not when it was made.

On boxed fragrance, the codes on the box and the bottle usually match. If they don’t, ask the seller why.

Chanel: if the code can’t be dated
  1. Re-type the code exactly as printed. The letters O and I are easy to mix up with the digits 0 and 1.
  2. On boxed fragrance, try the code on the bottle as well as the one on the box. If they differ, the box may belong to another bottle.
  3. Look for a printed expiry date or the open-jar symbol, such as 12M or 36M, which counts from opening.
  4. Ask Chanel customer care. Send a clear photo of the code and say where you bought the product.
  5. Stop using it if the smell, color or texture has changed. A fragrance that smells sharp or sour has turned.

Chanel FAQ

How do I check a CHANEL perfume production date?

Enter the compact batch mark from the bottle base or lower label, then compare it with the carton. Use the result as production context, not as a guaranteed expiration date.

How should CHANEL perfume be stored?

CHANEL advises protecting fragrance from heat, air, and light. Keep the cap closed, avoid heat, and retain the box when the storage area is bright.

Can a CHANEL batch code prove authenticity?

No. A plausible code cannot verify seller provenance, bottle construction, print quality, packaging, or the formula inside.

Can I check a BLEU DE CHANEL serial number online?

For fragrance dating, use the manufacturing batch mark on the bottle or carton in LotDate's CHANEL checker. Do not enter N°5, a fragrance concentration, volume or barcode. This is not an individual-bottle authentication service; contact CHANEL about purchase or product concerns.

How old Chanel products are when checked

Chanel products checked on Lot Date were typically dated to about 21 months before the check.

21 monthstypical age when checked (estimated)
10–40 monthsmiddle half of checks
30%dated more than three years before the check

Estimated from Lot Date readings for Chanel between Jun 12, 2026 and Oct 9, 2026. Each code counts once per visitor, and readings that can’t be right, such as barcodes or dates after the check, are left out. The figures describe the products people chose to check, not everything Chanel sells, and differences between brands partly reflect how precisely each brand’s codes can be dated.

CHANEL fragrance age, storage and package checks

Before you rely on the decoded date

  • Compare the compact lot on the underside or lower label of the bottle with the corresponding carton mark. Fragrance name, Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette concentration, volume, makeup shade, and retail barcode are not production codes.
  • CHANEL identifies heat, air, and light as the principal enemies of fragrance and recommends keeping the bottle tightly closed and away from heat, with its original packaging useful in bright rooms. Natural perfume color differs by formula, so compare scent, clarity, leakage, and atomizer condition rather than color alone.

Common lookup mistakes

  • Retain the CHANEL box and store fragrance upright, tightly closed, shaded, and away from repeated temperature swings.
  • For mascara, lipstick, foundation, and creams, mark the opening month and follow PAO; direct-contact cosmetics should not be judged by perfume storage rules.

What to check next for Chanel

For Chanel, combine the decoded date with product type, PAO, storage, and seller context before deciding whether to open, keep, replace, or buy.
